I am sure you all must’ve heard about the Bollywood actor, Salman Khan, running down people sleeping on the footpath, while under influence. But it took 13 years for the broken and corrupt judicial system to arrive to a verdict. And you have to read !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to understand how it was almost nearly impossible to prosecute a person in whom 2 billion rupees is invested in. Such a fucking pity man. I am deeply saddened.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Being a Pakistani, I understand that the sub-continent’s judicial systems are broken, outdated and pathetic but Pakistan’s system is not to this extent, at least the countless intelligence and investigation departments will know everything, regardless of they bring in it for prosecution or not, but they will know. The Army here brought in military courts to try terrorists and hang them within a couple of weeks to avoid the broken and prolonged judicial process because the parliament lack the IQ required to bring in legislative reforms. But they are coming and people are shouting/criticizing on them which is being heard, painfully-slow but they are coming, now, I am definitely thankful on that. Speedy justice to rid of this false ideals of killing people just because they oppose you.

But I was left in shock when I saw fellow Bollywood people coming out in support of the actor, saying its the government’s job to house people, it shouldn’t be the driver’s fault if you die while sleeping on a footpath. Some went as far as saying, “If you sleep and live like a dog, you will die like a dog”; many celebrities, even foreigners have evaded justice and did as little as 2 years for similar crimes. But since Salman was a celebrity, they gave him 5 years, the Bollywood argues. But he was driving under the influence, drove over a damn footpath, and if it wasn’t people sleeping, it could be someone walking on it who could’ve become a potential victim.

Both India and Pakistan, in fact every country has this patriotic rhetoric that they are better than other, they are the next aspiring superpower of the world, everything is fine, enjoy your coffee sir, that is the sound of firecrackers used in a nearby wedding, and not weapon fire.

Calming words, until, the fire comes to you.

PS: Often, bang bang noises confuse people here between weapons fire or wedding fireworks even though the later is banned.

Yeah. They actually keep separate expense to give them. Ask the trucking industry here, though they overload and to avoid challan, they pay in bribe insteads. Its cheaper, than fines.

Good fucking god, and I thought the justice system here in the U.S. was stacked in the favor or celebrities.

That’s unbelievable.

It seems that with extreme wealth (in some cases, not all) comes the attitude that the laws of the land ore only to be obeyed by the less fortunate. The less connected and the less powerful. It’s bad in America, but in the developing world, from my experience, it is by far much much worse. So, that being said, I’m happy that he got any time at all, and I’m honestly surprised that he didn’t just skip country and call it a day. I think that is will send a message, even if it isn’t as strong of a message as you would like to be sent.
